Apsara Authority will cooperate with the US Embassy in Cambodia to provide English language training for technical staff to use in their daily life, as well in work related to their skills. The training will be held at the Angkor Training Centre of Apsara by Mrs. Kitty Johnson, an English teacher from the United States.
On the morning of 6 October 2016, H.E. Dr. Tan Boun Suy, Deputy Director General of Apsara announced that the training will be held over for 10 months starting from October, and he expressed gratitude to the US Embassy for this cooperation program. He confirmed that, while mostly of Apsara’s staffs have a good knowledge of specific techniques such as archeology and architecture, their ability in using foreign language is limited. Due to the fact that most work in the region of Angkor involves cooperation with various international organizations, this language training will be of great value.
Mr. Ou Socheat, Public Relations Specialist of the US Embassy, said that this training program is now conducted in Phnom Penh, Battambang, Kampong Cham and Siem Reap by American teachers who volunteered through the embassy. He added that the trainer of this program is also preparing lessons to enable other trainers of Apsara to be able to continue such training after the completion of this 10 month program.
Mr. Ou Socheat added that besides these trainers will also organize English proficiency training for archeological staff of Apsara to sit for exams for scholarships to study abroad. This training will be conducted in collaboration with the Center for Khmer Studies at Wat Damnak.
