The 3rd Angkor Empire International Marathon started off and ended in front of Angkor Wat on 7 August 2016, going through the beautiful green landscape all around the Angkor Park. This event was opened by H.E Dr. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism and the President of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia
“In 2015, more than four million tourists, both locals and foreigners, visited Angkor. If only a quarter of those touch just one sculpture, we can predict that after another hundred years or so, later generations will never get to see its glory. That is what we need to think about in conserving our Angkor’’. This warning was sounded by Mrs. Om Marady, Apsara Authority’s Deputy Director of the Department of Tourism Management; in front of more than 100 students of the University of South-East Asia, in Siem Reap province, on the morning of 5 August 2016.
